Le Gypaète and its solar panels above Val de Bagnes

Self-sufficient

A self-sufficient chalet in the mountains

No grid, no compromise. Sun, spring water and wood · the mountain provides, we handle the rest.

Resources from the mountain

The essentials come from here

Solar electricity

Sixteen solar panels capture energy at altitude. A 12 kWh battery stores it to power the chalet day and night, even when the sun is scarce, without a grid connection.

Spring water, shared in consortage

Water comes directly from a mountain spring, managed as a consortage shared with about ten mayens: a 5 m³ reservoir, an intake zone protected from livestock, water quality tests and annual maintenance, followed by the traditional grill among consorts.

Everyday comfort

Off-grid, without giving up the essentials

The centrepiece · the soapstone stove

Made of soapstone, typical of the region's mayens, the stove is the heart of the chalet. One fire is enough: the stone stores the heat and then releases it slowly, with impressive thermal inertia · a gentle, even warmth for long hours after the flames have gone out.

Thermodynamic hot water

The 270-litre thermodynamic water heater also acts as thermal storage · it runs mainly during sunny periods, when the panels produce the most, and keeps hot water ready for the evening and the next day.

A different rhythm

The equipped kitchen, warm shower, WiFi and workspaces are all here. The difference lies elsewhere: life follows what the mountain provides · sun, spring and wood · with natural care for its resources.
